Connecting with Others

Staying connected is important while you’re managing cancer, whether it’s connecting with your friends and family and/or other people that have also been touched by cancer. There are many ways you can share your experiences and emotions, and/or learn and exchange information. We’ve curated a few ways to stay connected through our Health Match program, which you can access by selecting one of the icons to the right. You can also access a few of the online communities we’ve put a spotlight on below.

Cancer can sometimes be a lonely experience, and joining an in-person, or online support group can help improve your quality of life.1 There may be days where you don’t really feel like talking to anyone, and that’s okay. If you don’t feel like joining an in-person support group, you can start with an online community, where you can login in from the privacy of your own home to discuss issues you have in common. You can lurk as long as you need to, and then jump into the conversation when you’re ready. Emotional and social support can help you manage stress, and alleviate depression, anxiety and cancer or treatment-related symptoms.2 One-on-one peer support can also be beneficial and provide you with a sense of comfort from someone who has been in your shoes.
