Uterine Cancer

There are two types of uterine cancers. Endometrial cancer is more common and is cancer of the inner lining of the uterus. Uterine sarcoma is a rare cancer that starts in the muscle and supporting tissues of the uterus.

A few signs and symptoms of uterine cancer include unusual vaginal bleeding, discharge, spotting, pelvic pain and/or a mass.1, 2

Although certain factors can increase a woman’s risk, they don’t always lead to uterine cancer. Some women diagnosed with uterine cancer may not have any of the risk factors. A few risk factors associated with endometrial cancer include obesity, hormone factors, diet, exercise, family history of endometrial cancer, history of breast or ovarian cancer, history of endometrial hyperplasia and/or prior pelvic radiation therapy.3 Risk factors associated with uterine sarcomas include pelvic radiation therapy, as well as race. Uterine sarcomas is twice as common in Black women, than in Caucasian or Asian women.4

Connecting with other people that have uterine cancer through an online support group led by a social worker and/or virtually through Zoom can help you learn about your condition and provide you with support.
